Now Recruiting Job Stewards

Now Recruiting Job Stewards
Strengthen Your District — Step Up for Your Colleagues
Some of our districts are large and spread out, making it difficult for a single Director to reach every member. That’s where Job Stewards come in — filling the gap so no member ever feels neglected or without representation.
If you’re passionate about supporting your coworkers and strengthening our union from the ground up, we want to hear from you. Job Stewards are a vital link between unit members and the Board, and we need dedicated people in every corner of every district.
Job Steward Duties & Bylaws
Section E — Official MCEA Bylaws
Duties & Responsibilities
Job Stewards assist members in their work units with employment relations, filing grievances, and securing professional representation for disciplinary matters. Each Steward serves as a direct liaison between unit members and their Director-at-Large to keep communication flowing between members and the Board.
Nomination & Appointment
A Job Steward may be nominated by their Director-at-Large, or may volunteer by notifying the President of their desire to serve. The Board may appoint or remove a Job Steward periodically, with or without cause.
Number of Job Stewards
There is no limit on the number of Job Stewards. The Association is committed to recruiting and retaining a reasonable number of Stewards relative to the members represented in each unit.
Training & Abilities
Job Stewards are expected to have a working knowledge of the MCEA Bylaws, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Association and the City, and the applicable grievance procedure. All Stewards shall attend training provided by the Association.
